Paul appears to want to bring his discussion with Ben about their parents' conflicts to an end, mainly on the basis that Max and Jenny seem to be making healthy progress.
(In observing this correspondence from a distance of 60 years, one can reflect that a long-distance move is almost certain to be profoundly exhausting for elderly couples. Not the root of any pre-existing issues between them before they moved, but exhaustion...)
PAUL: You know, we can analyze each and every point quite clearly and understandably, but of course at the heart of it all is emotion; and their emotional disappointments — you know them all. And —here again— they are all quite understandable when viewed from their European background. I've seen families living here in exactly the way mom and pop want their family to live —so I can understand where their desires come from— but of course, our world, our U.S. culture is quite different. Hence the trouble starts. with all its ramifications —like a pebble dropped in a pond— and then the ensuing rings with them, the most outer ring is the arguments they are having with each other.
I hope that the last few weeks are an indication of the situation getting better.
